Beyond The Bounds: 2021 MidWest Mixed Conference
We are so excited to welcome you to Beyond The Bounds: 2021 MidWest Mixed Conference.
This year, the conference will be virtual (online) with bonus evening programming for attendees local to Minneapolis.
What began as a space for community dialogues about mixed race identities and experiences, has grown into a unique conference centered around art, community, and courageous conversations.
Together, we will hold space to break down that which has been holding us back, to reimagine and build a new way forward. We intend for the conference to serve as a space to build connection, find healing, and deepen our sense of solidarity toward our shared liberation. The Conference will hold space to explore mixed, multiracial, transracial and transnational adoptee experiences through art, activities, presentations, and conversations hosted by presenters and community members.
COMMUNITY
MidWest Mixed (MWM) is a vibrant community centering Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC) of all skin tones, across the gender and sexuality spectrums, who identify as or connect to the experiences of being mixed race, multiracial, biracial, multiethnic, and/or transracial/transnational adoptees. We also hold space for interracial couples and multiracial/mixed families.
Our stories are not linear. We are a place of grounding and growing and we welcome you at every stage of your journey.
CONVERSATION
We lead with questions and believe that complexity and nuance are reality and strengths. We seek to shape the discourse on mixedness through community-centered dialogues, alternative education, and artistic expression. Through conversation, we continue evolving our language and disrupt one-dimensional stories of mixedness and identity.
CHANGE
Black feminism teaches us to use intersectionality as a framework that allows us to build power for social change in ways that make space for our individual experiences.
We can all be powerful agents of change in our communities. At MWM, we hold space to grow in our identities to become deeper thinkers, engaged community members, and stronger leaders.
